The Big Bang Theory was doomed from the start

Ok, before you start breaking out your torches & pitchforks, let me just start by saying I absolutely adore this series. That being said, they really painted themselves into a corner plot-wise & nowhere is that more evident than in those final few seasons. So let me explain why the show was always destined to piss off the very fans that made it a success in the earlier years of its run.

You see, most of the criticism of the later seasons stems from the fact that it transitioned more from a show about nerdy guys doing nerdy stuff to a relationship drama & i can certainly understand that. But keep in mind it was pretty much inevitable from the get-go. I mean these are supposed to be our protagonists & as such, we naturally feel inclined to want to see them do well in life. That includes both professional & personal achievements (finding the one, getting married, procreating, etc.). As such, unless they had opted to make the series about four completely asexual guys & focus solely on their careers (which i think at the very least, they should’ve done for sheldon as it would’ve made much more sense), there was really no getting around them eventually finding wives & having to deal with all the issues that accompany the married lifestyle.

& sure, they could’ve maybe tried to have more guy-centric episodes later on & just say the women were out of town or something but i think there are only so many excuses they can come up with for why their wives are nowhere to be seen before it gets a bit implausible. So to all those who think the later seasons are much worse, i get it & i hear you. But like I said, it was really the only way for the characters to grow & evolve & become the good men they are today.
