Well, that was one hell of a finale. As you might imagine, I had a few thoughts on it so let’s jump right in. Going into it, I didn’t think this was intended to be a story that extends beyond one season but clearly the ending suggests otherwise. & you have to admit it’s a brazen move considering they have yet to be given the green light for a sophomore season.

But I just can’t see where they’re going with this right now. I mean I certainly don’t expect Julia to become her partner-in-murder or whatever but I don’t see how they could possibly cover up the death of AJ without drawing any suspicion. I mean what are they even going to say, he just slipped & fell in the bathtub while hanging out at her house or something? Maybe they have enough juice to squeeze out one last good season of the show but I really don’t think they should go past the events of the book; that typically doesn’t end well.

& I don’t want it to go the you route, either, where they try to stretch it out over five seasons. I mean at a certain point, there are only so many people you can kill before the authorities start catching on (& in fact, one of them already has so all the more reason to wrap things up soon). How do I want it to end? I honestly hadn’t given it much thought but assuming they get renewed for at least one more season, I would like to see her behind bars where she belongs while the community comes to terms with the fact that the deranged killer they’ve been searching for has been right under their noses this entire time.

Call me old-fashioned but I prefer narratives where the good guys actually win & the bad ones face justice for their crimes. &, look, if I could say one last thing about the series itself, I get it. We all need an outlet to keep ourselves sane & zen but there are other ways to do that besides homicide. My outlets have helped me immensely & what’s more, they’re actually legal so while I understand wanting to attain some catharsis, murder is obviously not the answer.

But looking to the future, I see no reason why it would not get renewed. I mean it’s been well-received both by critics & audiences alike. However, I have not been able to find any info on ratings so I think that’s ultimately what it comes down to. But even if we don’t ever get any more of this show, we’ll always have that terrific first season (& of course the book).
