Hello, Newman. The backtracking continues this week as apparently I have been so off my game as of late. So one of the most iconic guest stars the series ever had was Phillip Baker Hall (may he rest in peace) as the coincidentally-named library cop Joe Bookman. & as much as we love the idea of someone working for the library somehow being granted the rank of lieutenant & hunting down rogues who refuse to return overdue library books, it got me thinking: is this a real job? are there people who actually get paid do this for a living? Well, as you might imagine, we sent our experts out into the field & here’s what they managed to uncover.

So the short answer is of course not. There was a library of congress police force that protects the grounds of libraries across the DC area & was technically a federal law enforcement agency but it has since been incorporated into the capitol police. They guard these institutions to ensure no one leaves with a book without checking it out beforehand. But as for any type of library cops who hunt down library delinquents, there is no evidence to support the theory that type of job exists (or ever existed, for that matter). So that’s about all I have for you guys today but thank you so much for reading. Have a great weekend & I will see you back here next week. Until then, this is the x factor signing off.
