Seinfeld Declassified Episode 52: Does the trophy timeline check out?
Hello, Newman. I’m going to be upfront with you; there is not that much to declassify here but I just could not pass up the opportunity to cover the episode with one of the funniest scenes in tv history (at least in my opinion). So long story short, after being recruited by the mets (because apparently they want their organization to be the laughingstock of the MLB), can’t-stand-ya does everything he possibly can to go out in, as he put it, “a blaze of incompetence.” Why anyone would want to be remembered that way is far beyond me but perhaps that’s a discussion for another episode. So anyway, one of his attempts involves making derogatory statements about the staff while dragging around the commissioner’s trophy in the parking lot but should they even have that trophy? Well, as it happens, I think the timeline does actually check out.
You see, this episode aired May 1, 1997 & as it happens, the Yankees beat the braves to win the 1996 world series. So it does seem entirely logical they would have that trophy (although why it wasn’t locked away somewhere George couldn’t get his hands on it is beyond me). In any case, I believe they do make a new trophy every year so either way, they would’ve had one on hand. So that’s about all I had for you guys today but thank you so much for reading. Have a great weekend & I will see you back here next week for a brand new episode of Seinfeld Declassified. Until then, this is the x factor signing off.
