Seinfeld Declassified Episode 45: Does the dip theory hold any weight?
Hello, Newman. We’re going to be backtracking a bit this week but for a very good reason. We forgot to cover one of the classic episodes but that injustice is rectified as of today. So the implant sees George can’t-stand-ya as he argues with Timmy about the dangers of double-dipping (or lack thereof) but is there really any merit to this theory or is it just fear-mongering at its finest? Well, our researchers were able to get to the bottom of this mystery once and for all.
One of the most prominent studies comes out of the university of Clemson circa 2009 & finds that the number of bacteria did increase for those who took a bite of the chip & dipped it again (although this does vary from one dip to the next). Salsa, for instance, was found to have much greater levels of bacteria as opposed to chocolate or cheese dips. However, keep in mind our mouths are already chock full of bacteria so this does not necessarily mean double dipping is unsanitary. In fact, the study concludes that while there is always some health risks when it comes to double dipping, it’s not nearly as serious as many make it out to be.
If anything, they found you’re much more likely to fall under the weather from someone sneezing or coughing in your face than from secondhand dip exposure. So while it may be considered the societal norm, double dipping poses very little risk to your overall health. At the very least, though, I would recommend not double dipping with the part of the chip that has a bite taken out of it but it’s definitely not like putting your whole mouth right in the dip. So that’s about all I have for you guys today but thank you guys so much for reading. Have a great weekend & I will see you back here next week for a brand new episode of Seinfeld Declassified. Until then, this is the x factor signing off.
