Seinfeld Declassified Episode 29: What’s the deal with the dress?
Honestly, out of all the Seinfeld mysteries we’ve tried to solve over the years, this just might be the one I’m least interested in but this is still a case-cracking series. So crack it we shall. So in case you need a refresher, the episode follows Jerry caring more about the dress his girlfriend always wears than the girl herself.
So to quote Jerry, what’s the deal with that? Was she actually wearing the same thing every single day or does she have multiple copies of the same dress? & if so, why? Well, let’s examine the evidence & see if we can’t come to a relatively definitive conclusion. So one of our strongest pieces of evidence for her having more clothes than just that dress comes during the apartment scene. The fact that she comes out in a robe clearly indicates she does have other clothes which is pretty obvious.
But what about daywear? We see him searching in the closet & finding nothing but obviously that’s not where she would keep her wardrobe. It would be in her bedroom closet. I scoured the episode for evidence but there wasn’t much to find. What I did uncover was the fact that she did intend to change after spilling some wine. This does provide at least the slightest bit of evidence that she does have other clothes. She has to because there’s no way it would match every occasion she would ever have to go to her entire life. I mean you wouldn’t wear that to the gym, right?
But much like einstein, I imagine she just found an outfit she liked & stuck with it. There’s no shame in that but of course that’s all he was fixating on during their entire relationship due to the fact that he has the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone. So that’s about all I have for you guys today but thank you so much for reading. Have a great week, & I will see you back here soon for a brand new episode of Seinfeld Declassified. Until then, this is the x factor signing off.
