Seinfeld Declassified Episode 17: Was George on the right track with cotton?
Hey, guys. Welcome to season six. It’s going to be a great ride so stick around. So we kick things off with one of the less memorable but still iconic episodes, the chaperone. Our season commences with George trying to convince Buck Showalter, the manager of the Yankees, to switch from polyester uniforms to cotton. He responds by saying you might have something there but does he really? Well, as it turns out, he does.
You see, polyester is wrinkle resistant, fade resistant, highly durable, stain resistant and retains its shape but, as George said, cotton is more breathable, moisture absorbing, hypoallergenic, easy to dye to or color, soft, comfortable and much more affordable. So naturally, there is no catch-all as choosing the right material really depends on what you’ll be using it for but in this case, I do think he was right about cotton.
I mean think about it: it absorbs moisture which means whenever they schvitz, it won’t leave them soaking wet and the fact that it breathes will also leave them feeling cooler, as he said. Plus, the fact that it’s hypoallergenic means they won’t have to worry about any allergies getting in the way of them playing a good game. So, yeah, I think he was right; the only problem was the washing method they used and this brings us to our next teachable moment in the episode.
To ensure your cotton clothes do not shrink in the wash, it is imperative you wash them on the delicate cycle in cold water. Clearly, this is something they don’t teach them at Yankee stadium but as long as you do that, you can ensure your uniforms will last for many years to come. So that’s about all I have for you guys today but thank you so much for reading. Have a great weekend & I will see you back here tomorrow for a brand new episode of SD. Until then, this is the x factor signing off.
