Seinfeld Declassified Episode 16: Is that a real religion?

Hey, guys. So this will be the final episode for season 5 and, yes, we are backtracking just a bit but I realized there was one mystery from this season we forgot to tackle. And so that mystery has remain unsolved…until now. So let’s get to the bottom of this once and for all.

If you’ll recall, episode 11 sees George converting to Latvian Orthodox due to the fact that he’s insane & this eventually leads to Frank mentioning some sort of religion that goes around mutilating squirrels. So naturally, I just had to find out if this is a real thing or not. So I did some digging & here’s what we found.

As it happens, no, there does not appear to be any known religion out there that attacks squirrels. Even as insane as some religions can be, this feels like it would be pretty out there. So it wouldn’t be too surprising but, near as I can tell, no such religion actually exists. I think the writers were just playing a little too fast & loose with whatever drugs they could find.

One interesting fact, though, is when they were first writing this, their intent was to create a fictional religion so they had no idea that Latvian Orthodox was a real religion. But they did later get thank you letters from the church for helping bring them into mainstream society. So that’s all we have for today but thank you so much for reading.
