How should spongebob finally end?
It’s been on my mind lately so I thought we should talk about it. No, there has been no announcement of any sort of conclusion. In fact, there currently seems to be no end in sight but regardless as someone (in addition to stephen hillenburg) who believes the series should’ve ended years ago, it got me thinking: how should the series end? & if given the opportunity, how would i end it?
We’ll start with the first one. So according to my research, it seems Hillenburg initially had intended for the spongebob movie to be the series finale to ensure the series did not overstay its welcome. But it seems the network had other plans. In fact, they even said back in 2019 as long as nick exists, so will spongebob. So I guess they think either the cast is immortal or they already have understudies waiting in the wings to recast any of the cast members whenever they keel over (or they’ve already bought the rights their AI voices). Regardless, based on this, I guess it’s safe to say the spongebob movie is how it should’ve ended.
Now as for the latter, here’s what I always envisioned. I guess I always imagined it would end with krabs finally retiring (or at least moving on to some other business venture since he’s obsessed with money) so spongebob could become manager whilst squidward found a job he didn’t despise. I think it would also be nice to see him make amends with plankton & finally put that long-gestating rivalry to rest. As for sandy, i know there are some people shipping her with bob. i personally don’t really have much of a vested interested in that either way but i wouldn’t necessarily object to them ending up together. I mean it’s not like it would be completely out of left field.
& I guess I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention patrick. honestly, i probably wouldn’t really change anything for him. i mean it seems like he’s pretty contented with his life as is so i would just say let him keep doing what he’s been doing. if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. But regardless of the ending we get, I really do think they should wrap it up at some point in the near future. Otherwise, they’re just diluting a once-great series with mediocre episodes in an attempt to milk as much as they can out of a franchise that died long ago.
