Deadpool & wolverine may not save the mcu but it doesn’t necessarily have to
There were a lot of different thoughts running through my head as I sat in the cinema basking in the d&w experience but the one that ran through the most was: this is fun. That’s the whole thing: there’s been so much riding on this film for so long as fanboys have been desperate to know whether it’s going to “save the mcu” but ultimately now that it’s here, I don’t think that really matters.
I mean, sure, it’s done gangbusters at the box office (as we all knew it would) but ultimately I think it takes more than one good film to get this epic saga back on track. What they really need to do is start streamlining; get back to basics. Focus on quality over quantity. & it definitely seems like that’s a lesson that fegoli had to learn the hard way (but he learned it nonetheless). I mean if the trailer for brave new world is anything to go by, they absolutely appear to be prioritizing quality over quantity which is exactly what they need right now.
So whether you love it or hate it, just know that the entire future of the mcu does not hinge on this one film. The movie is definitely a fun romp & right now, maybe that’s sufficient.
