It’s been a while but we are back with a brand new episode. Today’s culinary adventures takes us to the dankery, one of the rising stars in the Durham restaurant industry. Starting out as a food truck, they have since taken over what used to be webson’s bar & grill, one of many tragic victims of the pandemic. One of the more intriguing aspects of it is the fact that they’re only open at night (typically between around 6 & 2) but if you have the time, I think it’s definitely worth the trip.

I arrived in the waning hours of sunlight & there was a bit of a line but not too bad. What’s cool & unique about it is the fact that you get to build your own tray so I got the vegan nugget tray with the garlic & parmesan sauce. I had heard it was mind blowing & while my mind remained firmly in my head, I did still like it. It wasn’t bad or anything; I guess was just expecting something uniquely incredible based on the reviews I had read.

Maybe it was just because I chose the sole vegan option on an otherwise meat-filled menu (& I’m more than willing to admit it if the other menu choices do blow my mind during subsequent visits to their establishment) but for this particular food option, it just was not as delicious as they had hyped it up to be. I got a slice of cake too which also failed to live up to my expectations. Again, it wasn’t necessarily bad, just a little band & not as flavorful as I was anticipating. The only thing I outright disliked about the whole experience was the music.

I mean I fully support african-american-owned businesses (as should everyone) & love rap as much as the next guy but it was so loud, you had to practically shout at full volume just to be heard. & especially when you’re trying to order, this can be a bit problematic to say the least. But all in all, if you’re looking for some good comfort food in the bull city & don’t mind shouting your order, you definitely can’t go wrong with the dankery.
