One of the best elements of the 5th (and tragically final) season of angel was the (re)introduction of everyone’s favorite billy idol wannabe (or, rather, inspiration), Spike. What makes his presence great is his rapport with the titular character and we know he arrived via amulet (because apparently all the buses were full). But when last we saw this mystical amulet, it was crushed under the ruins of sunnydale so how in the ever-loving hell (no pun intended) did it end up in the offices of wolfram and hart? That’s the mystery we’ll be attempting to get to the bottom of on this week’s episode of buffy(verse) analysis.

So here is what we have to go off of thus far. When last the amulet graced our screens, it was set to be buried under a shit ton of rubble in the ruins of Sunnydale. Next thing we know, it shows up in the inbox of wolfram & hart with no return address. How does that happen? Well, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility someone could have gone back and dug it up but, even if that’s possible, why?

I think what it really boils down to is the motivation. Who would benefit the most from annoying angel to no end by sending spike to the LA law offices of wolfram & hart? I think you see where I’m going with this but, just in case you don’t, let me spell it out for you. It was clearly the slayer herself, Buffy. Think about it; it makes perfect sense.

I mean he literally tried to rape her just one season ago and, even beyond that, she found him just annoying in general. So, naturally, she was looking for a way to get rid of him. She also seemed pretty pissed at angel after he got all petty upon finding out spike got a soul. So she decided to kill two birds with one stone by using her super strength to dig through the rubble, recover the amulet and send it to LA.

Think about it; she had the means, motive and opportunity. It all makes sense. What better way to get back at both of them than by having them drive each other insane for (literally) all eternity? Of course, this is all conjecture; we never did get a definitive answer on this but it seems to make a lot of sense the more you think about it.

So that’s about all I had for you guys today but thank you so much for reading. Have a great week & I’ll see you back here next month for a brand new episode of buffy(verse) analysis.
